L & R Installations: Consistent Excellence is the Key to the Firm’s Nearly 20 Years of Success

“Consistently getting the job done the first time is the key to our success,” says Ron Small of L & R Installations. “The builders we work with, many of whom we have worked with for years, can count on us to provide excellent service, attention to detail, and the best quality at the right price.”
Larry Yanoshik agrees: “This business is very competitive. To be on top and stay on top means that we must concentrate on providing exceptional service on a consistent basis, day in and day out.” For Larry, Ron, and the L & R Installations team, consistent service, day in and day out has been achieved for more than 30 years.

The home building supplies distributor in Levittown, PA, was founded by Larry Yanoshik in 1982 after he moved from Florida to Philadelphia. He concentrated on providing closet shelving for builders and their homeowners. “What was difficult for me then,” he admits, “was that I was doing everything – sales, design, and installations, and I didn’t really know the area.” Shortly after that, Larry met Ron Small, who was selling millwork and doors to building professionals in this region. “Ron not only knew the area,” Larry says, “he knew sales and had an established client base.”

The two partnered in 1985 and divided the responsibilities of running the company. Ron would head up sales, Larry would handle the technical aspects of the business. “Our basic jobs have never changed,” Ron says. “In respect to our skills, we complement each other. On top of that, we are best of friends.” Today, L & R Installations boasts a 17,500 square foot combined office, warehouse, and shop with 25 trained, dedicated employees. The focus remains on the building industry, and its product offering has been greatly expanded over the years.

More than 80 residential and commercial builders in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware look to L & R Installations for bath accessories, shelving, mirrors, shower doors, hardware, and commercial bath accessories and toilet partitions for their wide array of construction projects. “We are hands-on owners,” Ron says. “Our customers are comfortable knowing that we are available to them every day. We are not in another state or even in another country, we are right here.”

“Builders are incredibly busy and are often short-staffed. They do not have time to deal with a supplier or a subcontractor who cannot live up to promises or guarantees,” Larry adds. “We do not subcontract work out, we install ourselves. Because our installers are our employees, our clients know the buck stops here.” In terms of new homes, builder clients may build two homes per year or 200 homes per year. Size simply doesn’t matter, the partners say. What has made a difference to the builders is that the L & R sales team will meet with the home buyer and walk them through the decision-making process, often designing custom closets, custom shower doors, and custom mirrors. “Homeowners are much more sophisticated than they were 20 years ago,” Larry says. “They want their home to be personalized. They want custom features. Builders recognize that and are pleased that they can trust us to work directly with their customers.”

Choices for the homeowners can often seem endless and confusing. L & R Installations has helped to ease the process. “We refer our clients to our website before decisions are made,” Ron explains. “We have direct links to many of our manufacturers, including ClosetMaid shelving, Basco, Century, Coral, and Quality bath enclosures, and American Pride medicine cabinets, to name a few. Customers can browse through the catalogs at their leisure before meeting with our sales people. They get a feel for what they want, and we are able to help them make their final decisions. Our website was designed to alleviate the stress often associated with the new home decision-making process.”
